As we are turning the corner in the Fredericksburg region from COVID-19, Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg is pleased to resume scheduled appointments at all six of our locations. On May 4th, Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg will reopen all of its facilities for scheduled appointments. In accordance with official guidance, we have modified our patient services to protect the health of the public and our staff, but are now able to resume offering the same high levels of customer service with the best regional pricing that we’ve always provided.

Dr. Michael McDermott, President and CEO of Mary Washington Healthcare, said in a recent town hall to the community, “…with the stay at home orders and the social distancing that has been taken so seriously by every member of our community, those models show that we are flattening the curve.” Read more here about what the healthcare community is saying. “I think we’re definitely on the downhill stretch, and we’ve definitely passed the peak,” said Dr. Christopher Newman, Chief Medical Officer of Mary Washington Healthcare.

What this means for our community and region is important. All of the annual scheduled services such as mammograms can now be scheduled, as well as imaging prescribed by physicians for the care of their patients. While we have continued to support the Hospital throughout the crisis, doctors* are now able to schedule both diagnostic and screening exams in North Stafford, Fredericksburg, Lee’s Hill, and King George. Patients may also schedule mammograms directly at our facilities in these same locations.

While patients and physicians may have put off routine screenings and diagnostic imaging during the crisis, it is important not to delay or postpone imaging studies any longer than necessary. It is vital that everyone in our community takes proactive steps to maintain their health and complete the types of screenings and imaging that prevent and diagnose illness as early as possible because early detection saves lives.

High-Value Imaging Serving the Region

For community members across the region who are currently not able to access important screening or diagnostic medical imaging because their local facilities are closed, we offer scheduled appointments that combine the best available technology, Top 100 Board Certified, Fellowship Training Radiologists with cost-effective plans. For communities in Northern Virginia, low cost, high-quality medical imaging is as close as North Stafford.

We are reopening in response to the flattening curve in the Fredericksburg area, and we are doing so in accordance with the CDC, Virginia Department of Health, ACR, and CMS guidelines. Each of our offices has made adjustments that will help to keep every patient and staff member safe.

Our Steps to Safeguard Your Health

Here is what we are doing to ensure the safety of our patients, our staff, and the community:

  • Patients must wear a face covering (mask, scarf, bandana) before entering the facility. If they don’t have a mask, one will be provided. Patients will be asked screening questions at the time of procedure scheduling, at the time of appointment reminders, and upon arriving at the imaging facility.
  • In order to practice social distancing, we have modified seating in the waiting area, and have increased the time between procedures.
  • We have dedicated early morning hours for patients that are 60 years or older.
  • Our patients can pre-register from home, so there is no need to stand in line for registration, and they can experience shorter times in the waiting room.

We are screening all patients for COVID-19 symptoms** at three different points in time:

  • First, at the time of appointment scheduling;
  • Second, at the front door of our facilities before entering our waiting and reception areas;
  • Third, before being brought to the procedure room.

*CT Scan should not be used to screen for or as a first-line test to diagnose COVID-19 and used sparingly in COVID-19 suspected cases reserved for hospitalized, symptomatic patients with specific clinical indications for CT Scan. Chest X-Rays should also be used sparingly in COVID-19 suspected individuals and be reserved for those cases where it will impact patient management and is clinically indicated.

**Patients that screen positive or are present with known PUI/COVID-19 exposure will be directed to our Medical Imaging at Lee’s Hill facility for their imaging needs. If a patient comes into our facilities with cough or fever or respiratory symptoms, they will be given a mask to wear and an exam will be completed. We will then use an expedited process for isolation of patients presenting cough, fever, or respiratory symptoms, thus reducing contact with staff and other patients as well as allowing additional appropriate cleaning of the exam room after completion of the exam. Whenever possible, we will use an alternate entrance for these patients.
